North to Alaska Day 14 (Sunday 5/15) and Day 15 (Monday 5/16)

We left the Liard Hot Springs Lodge & RV Park to head toward Watson Lake.  Again, we saw beautiful scenery and quite a bit of wildlife.  We didn't have to drive far to see a moose in the middle of the road.....

We decided to stay at the Downtown RV Park in Watson Lake.  The campground was right in town and across the lake from the Wye Lake Park and Wye Lake.  There are 2 Wye Lakes in the city.

We listened to the loons in the evening calling to each other, very relaxing!

The town of Watson Lake is famous for its Sign Post Forest.  The forest was started in 1942 by a homesick Army GI while working on the Alaska Highway.  He erected a sign here pointing the way to his hometown.  Others followed his lead and are still doing so to this day.  There are more than 17,000 signs posted as of today.

This is the view of the Liard River from Allen's Lookout.  Legend has it that a band of outlaws took advantage of this sweeping view of the river to attack and rob riverboats.

Welcome to the Yukon! What a fancy sign, I bet the government spent a lot of money on this sign.
Many buffalo along the Alaska Highway in the Yukon.

We arrived in Whitehorse this afternoon.  A beautiful city - the capital of the Yukon.  The population here is around 24,000, the entire Province of Yukon Territory is 31,000.  When we got to Whitehorse we decided to stay at the Hi Country RV Park on the recommendation of Downtown RV Park in Watson Lake.
