We arrived at the Blythe/Colorado River KOA on February 1st. It's located right on the border of California and Arizona. For those RV'ers that are familiar with Quartzsite, AZ; we are 11 miles from Quartzsite. The desert surrounds our campground on three sides and the Colorado River is on the remaining side. It is quite beautiful with the mountains in the background. Sue's working in the office of the campground taking guest reservations, checking in guests, and working the store. She is only working 16 hours a week (3days on 4 days off) for their camp site and is enjoying it very much.
We've been exploring the town of Blythe; which isn't much; but we found a great little produce market just a couple of miles out of town that not only sells fresh produce but also sells fresh citrus. It is amazing to have tangelo's or oranges that are fresh off the tree. They taste so sweet and the juice just runs down your arm while you're peeling them. We've been eating so healthy that it almost scares me :)
Since we've been here we've been lucky enough to have company come visit us from Minnesota. One day while Deb & Steve were here, we took a drive to Palm Springs. Palm Springs was, and still is, a vacation town for movie stars of yesteryear. While there, we took a driving tour of the stars homes. It amazed us that the homes were not mansions like you would believe they have and some were in quite disrepair. Most of the homes have little or no yards, unless they put the house next to the road and use the rest for the pool area.
The next day while our friends were here, we went to Lake Havasu City and saw the London Bridge. Robert P McCulloch purchased the bridge from the City of London in 1968. It is really unique how they tore it down piece by piece, shipped it over here and put it back together. The dedication took place in October of 1971. We walked across the bridge to eat at a little micro brewery then walked back again to the little English town that they've created under the bridge. Lake Havasu City is really a nice little town created by the same gentleman that owns McCulloch chain saws and who purchased the London Bridge. The town was finally incorporated one year after he died in the 1978.
