White Water Rafting on the Nenana River

Today Roger and I took our first Canyon White Water Rafting ride.  We rode down the Nenana River within the Denali National Park.  Not only was the ride wild through some of the rapids, but it was also lazy in some spots.  The rapids grade was a 3+ which is pretty good for novices like ourselves to tackle.  We had a great guide, Country, from South Carolina.  This is his 8th year taking groups down the river.  He also happens to do his laundry at the Cantwell RV Park as well as live here in Cantwell.

The scenery along the canyon was spectacular!  Even though the water was a chilly 37 degrees, we were actually sweating in our dry suits from the adrenaline rush you get from paddling.  No one fell out of the boat, thank goodness!

After a hard afternoons ride, we went to the McKinley Chalet for a great buffet of several different salads, Alaska salmon, pork loin, asparagus, red potatoes, and several different desserts.  Yum!
